Rebecca Beinart is a Nottingham based artist and went to nottingham trent uni, where she did a three year course in fine art. At uni she became interested in how art could be an experience, she looked at narratives.
The things she made were visual but shown as an event, her degree project was a treasure hunt that led you to a place, it was fun but educational.
She went on to do an MA in art and ecology in devon, the course was experimental with nature. She was taught by writers, artists, scientists.
Rebecca uses photography to document lie events, photography captures her work.
She has done lots of commissioned work.
Bristol - Rebecca walked the river seven times and made the river part of her art work she had people like bird watches and river experts, pop up in different places of the river and tell stories and facts.
London - Rebecca went looking for food to create a meal from the wildlife around london. (not from bins) She works alone and with groups/ workshops.
Loughborough - wanted to spread/share bred all around the world. she made mini bread mixtures and gave them to people at a faire and asked them all to share it with friends, family, anyone they new. The brad spread to many countries but was stopped at boarders and security checks.
Origination - investigating her own family history.
made a video, a ghost tea party for all her dead relatives, where the food was eaten by 'nothing'
Plants - went to see how nature can be used as medicine. she names this project 'poison'
she was interested how something so pretty such as a flower could create such a toxic poison.
Alongside making art work she works in the field of education in art colleges and in the community.

Brian Griffen
Brian has been taking photos for 40 years, started 1970.
He started off taking photos on a film camera, he doesn't have a degree only a diploma, he is influenced by tony ray jones,
When he was younger his family didn't encouraged him to have a career in photography as it was looked down on, as people didn't think you could make money from it.
When he finished his diploma he did a little travelling, which inspired him to take lots of photos (documentary style) of anything he came across.
Barney bubbles inspired him, he took a lot of pictures which bubbles illustrated with lines, which created a self published book. He made his own light equipment as he didn't have much money. Most of his first images were taken in his apartment, he used what he owned as a backdrop. He new from the beginning photography was going to be his life.

David Lachapelle
david lachepelle was a portrait photographer, he made photography modern. He travels the world pushing the boundaries of photography.
At the moment he work in new york and photographs many celebrities, he is influenced by Andy warhol.
From his pictures you can see he is a contemporary photographer his pictures are sexy and surreal and naturally crosses the art/ fashion genre.
His mum introduced him to photography she used photography as an escape. Between him and his team he creates the screens for his 'crazy' pictures.
David started doing wedding photos then his approached change after 8-10 years he now considers himself a conceptual photographer.
His shoots can take anything up to 2 days to complete, money is never a limit, often putting a lot of his own money into a project. There is always a risk shoots won't pay off like when he used photos as a back drop. Most celebrities are aware of david and want him to photograph them. He plays music on the sets to make the celebrities feel comfortable in front of the lens.
He has to come up with loads of ideas for sets so the celebrities can pick the one they are the most comfortable with, he researches each artist before the shoots to get inspiration. Each set shows you loads about the celebrity in them, he lives to see people look beautiful and sexy, some will allow david to create real intense scenes so its shows a lot about how far they are willing to go. He never repeats a scene, and always gets nervous before a shoot.
David wasn't born with money he came from a small town where he felt he didn't fit in and that there was no option but to go to new york where he went to art school and met andy warhol, where his aim became to make everyone look good. He worked for magazines like time vogue, vanity.
The colours in the photos are bright and rich, full on, over saturated and highly polished, its like he's trying to achieve perfection when he takes the photos and when he edits them.
'photography is like a painting, it can be any thing i want it to be'
He didn't wanna photograph the horrors of the world.
He moved into doing music videos, these are darker and less funny, more serious. He says they are still heart felt. Some look like they are nightmare themed. He never thought his images would be shown in a gallery, he only aimed to get them shown in magazines.
Aim is to photograph people that make up the world, people from popular culture.
Salbastio Salgado
He is a brazilian social documentary photographer, he is also a photojournalist. Hes been to over 100 countries to take his images.
salgado trained as a economist put changed careers.
Most of his work is published in the form of an artists book, his subjects are people and he photographs the result of globalisation
'globalisation describes the spread of communication, technologies and production'
He photos 'reality' like Poverty (a key theme)
Salgado photographs in black and white and uses a 35mm film camera.
His photos are:
Atmospheric
Moody
Powerful
Meaningful
Have an air of dispare
He prints all the images himself.
Salgado wants to make you aware on how some people live, like he doesn't want to show you the pretty flowers he wants to show you the pain and suffering some people are doing though. He wants people to help find a solution, he wants people to help the people suffering due to poverty ie the people in some parts of africa.
The pictures are very revealing and are in some ways beautiful, the photos only take a second to take yet mean so much to so many people. He shows us how nothing really justifies the reason for war or poverty.
Salgado will live with the people in his picture for months before he takes any so he can gain the trust of them and get them to act natural and everyday in his images. He says he is aways privileged to take the images he does as it shows people what the world is really like.
He took all the kids pictures in one village as they were all pestering him to take them, these images went on to make a series of head and shoulder photos with each child looking directly into the camera, they each spoke with their eyes showing how they wanted to 'exist' been seen and not forgotten. Each child has a sense of hope in there eyes and a need to be helped.

She always communicated well with her subjects which helped in the taking of her photos as the subjects were relaxed around her, she would even hang out with the celebrities to get use to they way they acted. By the time she left rolling stones she had shot 142 covers.

For this project i have to take three images of 'beauty and the beast' my images will be thought provoking.I am going to take three images of domestic abuse, i will create the bruises with make up and face paint. The images will show how the girl was beautiful and that the guy/bruises are the beast.
I am going to use the image on the right as a base as this is the look im going for, as only have the face is 'beaten' and the other still shows her beauty.
I will airbrush the images on photoshop to make the beauty side more flawless. I will take the images in the studio.
